Research UDESC develops research that enables high-level academics to produce knowledge and professional performance. They also help solving specific problems presented by stakeholders, therefore attending social demands. There are 142 research groups certified by the National Research Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). These are divided into eight major subject áreas:  Agricultural  Biological Sciences  Health Sciences  Natural Sciences  Computing  Statistical Astronomy and Earth Sciences Humanities Applied Social Sciences Engineering Linguistics Literature and Arts

Outreach Teachers and students of UDESC perform 500 outreach projects per year in several areas, making the knowledge gained in teaching and researching available to the general public. The projects are free of charge and benefit more than people annually. Some examples are: Extensionist Rondon Center, wich seeks solutions for sustainable development in disadvantaged communities; health and practices and physical activity; education and cultural activities; and training programs with the most varied audiences.
