Post-Tsunami Planning Reconstruction Support Project Over 60 PIA volunteers and academics Teams of volunteers – planners, designers, architects, GIS specialists Supported the development of township, regional and national plans, and urban design frameworks Funded by AusAID and the Australian Red Cross

A shift in our focus Five years on, the program shifted to recovery from a natural disaster to recovery from conflict End of intense civil conflict in 2009 and ‘re- opening’ of the North of Sri Lanka Making up for 30 years of very limited investment in infrastructure Less elephants, more tanks

Regional Planning in Sri Lanka Commenced in June 2011 Teams of 3 Volunteer Planners for 3 months Support the development of Regional Plans for the northern provinces Development of a Community Engagement Strategy Funded by AusAID

PIA Workplace Training Program Commenced in 2007 Over 30 planners from Sri Lanka and the Pacific Eight week work placements, plus short courses, conferences and study tours Funded by AusAID, with in-kind support from generous PIA members

Project Partners And the many generous planning professionals who make this all possible…
