Presentation transcript:

 Activity:  A fire has been burning in a coal mine for several years in the northeastern United States. The fire is completely underground; smoke rises through cracks in the ground in some area and the ground has collapsed in several locations.

 Fill the mine with water  Try to smother the fire by cutting off oxygen  Let the fire continue burning

 We must take into consideration the obstacles; challenges.  What is the most cost effective? (cheapest)  Which would cause the most harm to the environment?  Which solution will actually work?

1. Partner with another class mate and write a list of all the different types of Engineering specializations or types of engineers. 2. Write a description of one of those specializations. What do they do? What do they need to know? What types of problems do they tackle? Give examples 3. Present in class

 Engineering programs usually are accredited by an organization outside of the University.  Accreditation is a stamp of approval from a group of engineers that have evaluated the school to ensure that the school gives a quality education, adequate resources and appropriate curriculum

 The largest accreditation organization.   Their requirements include but not limited to:

 The goal of Engineering school is to become a licensed professional engineer (PE)  It is not required to have a license; however you must have a license in order to offer services to the public and sign official documents.  In America, each state has their own engineering licensure.  Most states require engineers to take the Engineering Fundamentals Exam (FE)
