English Language 2 The Second Semester Unit 4B Reading: Houses you’ll never forget Presented by Dr. Mohamed Sha’at

Objectives of the Session Students are expected to: 1- skim a text to find its general idea. 2- scan the text to find specific information. 3- use new vocabulary in meaningful sentences.

Answer the following questions 1- Where do you live? I live in a terraced house/block of flats. 2- Read the title p. 59 and look at the pictures. What do you think the text about? It may be about a famous man house.

Houses you’ll never forget - Read the first paragraph loudly. Invite students to read the second paragraph and answer the following questions. - What is the entrance guarded by? It is guarded by two giant statues. - Where did Frida entertain her friends? In the spacious and airy living room. - Who was Frida’s husband and what was his job? Frida’s husband was Diego Rivera and he was a painter.

Invite students to read the third paragraph and answer the following questions. - Why is the kitchen floor painted yellow? It is painted yellow to stop insects from coming in. - Where did Frida and Diego often have lunch parties? They often had lunch parties on the long yellow table. - Who are Fulang Chang and Bonito? Fulang Chang is a beloved monkey and Bonito is a parrot. They are Frida’s pets.

Invite students to read the fourth paragraph and answer the following questions. - What kind of dresses did Frida love wearing? She loved wearing the colourful Mexican dresses. Invite students to read the fifth paragraph and answer the following questions. - When was the real date of Frida’s birthday? It was on July 6th Why did she change the date of her birthday? She changed the date of her birthday to the year of Mexican Revolution.
