Scale-up statewide structure to create local capacity to implement an integrated behavior and reading Multi-Tier System of Supports with fidelity, that endures over time and utilizes data-based decision making at all levels of implementation so that students become better readers with the social skills necessary for success MiBLSi Mission

Fun Facts About Michigan: Interstate 75 is 396 miles long from Ohio boarder to Sault Ste. Marie in the Upper Peninsula Upper Peninsula is 334 miles from west to east Upper Peninsula makes up 29% of the land area but only 3% of the total population

Initial Need: Develop capacity of local trainers Ensure common background knowledge existed among trainers Maintain the quality of the trainings Addressing the logistics of training – including distance and time Our Purpose

Our Tool Box

Goal: By August 1, 2013 the project will have developed 7 online modules focused on deepening the background knowledge in topics related to the implementation of an integrated behavior and reading MTSS framework Start Small

Wealth of information and knowledge currently exists within the project New format/platform for delivery but underlying concepts remained constant Start With What We Know

Track Two: Parallel Tracks Track One:

Easy Access – we were already using Adobe Connect for conference calls Functional but time consuming – we made mistakes and had to re-record and edit – A LOT! We did not master the “polished” finished product Track One: Adobe Connect

We met our goal – but it was not pretty! Congratulations!?!??

Track Two: Michigan LearnPort

Cost: $5,000/annually for our needs Includes: Training project staff Technology support when uploading Directions for users Setting up accounts Accessing online modules and courses LearnPort

Listened to our needs Recommended another option for recording our online modules – Articulate Provided direct training in how to upload our content to their site and manage the content Helped us to realize we could “string together” a number of shorter modules into an online course Support Provided

LearnPort

E-Learning Software and Authoring Tool Ease of recording Ability to embed video links, resources, and quizzes right into online modules Track Two: Articulate Studio

Costs: $1,000 per Software License Started with 2 in October Purchased another license in December and a fourth license in January Considering 1-2 more licenses Training Online tutorials available on the website Trial and error Peer support Articulate Studio

Articulate

Quick Realizations: There is a potential for a larger impact using online modules Trainers Coaches Implementation Team Members School Leadership Team Members School Staff Link the online modules to specific content across the cascading model Shifting Need

Being able to earn State Continuing Education Clock Hours is a motivating factor for our receivers State Continuing Education Clock Hours

“Way to go on the PBIS overview module. It's fabulous!! I assigned it as homework for our District Implementation Team and we will be reflecting upon it during our next session. This module filled an immediate need they had to build their background knowledge in PBIS since they are about to lead the charge in February. So, thanks!” ISD MTSS Coordinator

Setting up routine reports from LearnPort to determine: Who is accessing the online modules? Are they completing the modules? Are schools accessing online modules in tandem with the in-person training? Gathering more feedback from our receivers: Embed feedback survey at the end of each module We Need More Data

Geography Voice Topics & Time Pitfalls – We’ve Had a Few!!

10 content specialists sharing laptops with Articulate software Online modules being developed in other units within our project Solution: Purchase additional laptops and software Pitfall #1: Geography

Not everyone wants to narrate the online modules Some of us are better at it than others Who likes to hear their own voice?!? Solution: ??? Pitfall #2: Voice

Pitfall #3: Topics & Time Solution: Gather data & prioritize next steps
