Homework: Read Chapters 1 &2 YOU SHOULD HAVE YOUR OWN COPY OF THE OUTSIDERS BY SE HINTON

CREATIVE WRITING JOURNAL  1. All journals should have a copy of the JOURNAL GUIDELINES  2. All journals should be in a composition book  3. Journals will count 2x’s as classwork this quarter  4. Glue the “Common Errors” and glue in the back of your journal.

Turn to page 184 in the Literature Book MIDDLE OF PAGE IT DISCUSSES POINT OF VIEW

CLASS NOTES: POINT OF VIEW  The point of view from which a story is told influences the information a reader gets about the plot and characters. First person PoV is told from a character within the story. Second person PoV includes the reader as a participant in the text.

Third person limited PoV is told from an external narrator with insider information limited to one specific character’s thoughts and motivations. Third person omniscient PoV is told from an all-knowing external narrator who shares the internal thoughts and motivations of multiple characters.

Third person objective : A neutral statement not sharing thoughts or opinion. Usually making a statement or reporting information. Can be giving directions without using “you”.  NEXT TASK: 1.With a partner complete “Identifying Narrative Perspective” handout. 2.Underline or highlight words that help you determine the Point of View.
