 One of the 24 provinces in Ecuador  2007  World Heritage in Danger by The World Heritage Center and IUCN  Inadequate regional planning  Unsustainable tourism development

Organic Law for the Special Regimen for the Conservation and Sustainable Development of Galapagos (LOREG)  Approved in 1998  Aspects of island life were to be regulated: Regional planning Inspection and quarantine measures Fisheries management Residency and migration Tourism Agriculture Waste management

 Restrictions: Migration Import of goods Where people live The kind of pets they have  Rights (only for residents): Various subsidies Access to tourism Fishing rights

Law under revision since 2008 (new constitution) More than 50 central government organizations and 9 local organizations with decision-making responsibilities in Galapagos More than 40 of these entities had a physical presence
