Absolute truth v evolving changing truth

There are 2 kinds of truth that cause conflict between Religion & Science 1. Absolute truth 2. Evolving changing truth

Absolute Truth The facts can’t ever change because they are simply correct ‘ the angles of a triangles add up to 180 degrees’ Why is that absolutely true? Other examples?

For Richard Dawkins It is an absolute truth that God does not exist.

For Fundamentalist Christians The Bible contains the ABSOLUTE TRUTH

Evolving changing truth As information changes, the idea of truth changes.

For an agnostic … One day there may be evidence that God exists….. Or doesn’t! Belief in God could be evolving and changing.

Changing minds Many scientific discoveries are called ‘THEORIES’ Evolutionary Theory Big Bang Theory etc New information may still turn up to change understanding. Some religious believers are willing to adapt their interpretation of scripture in the light of scientific discoveries.

AUTHORITY Who would you trust to be telling the truth?

In Islam the Qur’an has ABSOLUTE authority Muslims believe that Allah spoke DIRECTLY to the prophet Muhammad. They totally trust what it says They have no doubts.

Truth can be SUBJECTIVE What one religion believes is not the same as another. Even scientists can disagree on the interpretation of the facts.

What do you see?

How do you see these footprints?

6.9 Do science & religion answer the same questions? Ask a scientist why the kettle is boiling. She will give an answer about elements and electricity, increased heat, bubbles being formed, steam being produced. Ask me why the kettle is boiling ‘Because I’m making a cup of tea’ Same question Different answer

How & Why Science usually asks ‘How’ & Religion asks ‘Why’? Science asks how life began & seeks answers such as Evolution. Religion asks WHY life began. It is quite possible to accept both answers.
