BELLWORK What was the NRA? What was the AAA? How was this approach supposed to jumpstart the economy? What was a “fireside chat?” (pg. 459) Why did so many people find “fireside chats” appealing? THINKER: Although FDR’s “New Deal” programs seemed to benefit a lot of people, there was still a lot of criticism from American citizens. Do you think there is anyway a program can appeal to everyone? Why or why not?

New Deal Opposition Although the New Deal programs helped many Americans, FDR’s plans faced a lot of opposition. You are going to read about specific critics (pgs ) and complete a graphic organizer. Do this on a blank sheet of paper! You will turn this in for points!

FDR’s 100 Days When Roosevelt became President, Americans demanded immediate action. Roosevelt responded with a series of new programs in the “first hundred days.” Hundred Days: FDR met with Congress for 100 days. During those 100 days of lawmaking, Congress granted every one of FDR’s requests. Ever since, Presidents have been judged against FDR for what they have accomplished in their first 100 days.

FDR vs. OBAMA You are now going to read an article about President Obama’s First 100 days in office. The article outlines the four major issues that Obama had to tackle in his first 100 days. On the back of your mind map notes, create a T-Chart of similarities and differences. Under similarities, list the things FDR and Obama had in common in their first 100 days. Under differences, list the things FDR and Obama did differently in their first 100 days.
