“Kingdom Life” Mark 1: /19/2010 Dr. Dane Boyles

Mark 1: After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. 15 “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!”

“Kingdom Life” Kingdom Life 15 “The time has come.” (Mark 1:15)

Luke 17:20 20 Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation,

Luke 17:21 21 nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.”

“Kingdom Life” To experience that kingdom life, you have to do two things: –repent –believe  Repent means to turn around.

“Kingdom Life”  “Believe” is more than intellectual assent.  “Believe” is to act. 15 “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!” (Mark 1:15)

“Kingdom Life” What does it mean to give up my old life for a kingdom life? 16 As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. (Mark 1:16)

Mark 1: “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” 18 At once they left their nets and followed him.

“Kingdom Life” Lives Changed 17 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, (Mark 1:17)

“Kingdom Life” It was surprising on several counts:  Rabbis didn’t call disciples. –It was the other way around.  Jesus says, “Come, follow me.”

“Kingdom Life” Hold On—Listen. It was surprising that Jesus didn’t stop with “follow me.” 17 “I will make you fishers of men.” (Mark 1:17)

“Kingdom Life”  He wasn’t just calling them.  He was sending them.

“Kingdom Life” What was Jesus asking these two brothers to repent of?  What they were doing was too small!  Jesus was offering them a mission.

“Kingdom Life” Personalization What might he be asking you to repent of?

“Kingdom Life” A Hole? Can you follow Jesus and not be on mission? Can we separate the gospel of going to heaven from the gospel of going into the world?

“Kingdom Life” Doing Good Being on a mission is important. 1.It’s what we were made for.

Ephesians 2:8-9 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

Ephesians 2:10 10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

“Kingdom Life” 2. It’s kingdom work. 3. It’s what the world is looking for.
