Booktalks! Talking about books

What is a booktalk? Convincing someone to read a book, author, series, etc. Choose a book that you feel comfortable with and you enjoy Remember your audience and who you are trying to convince Popular compared to unknown

Aspects of a Booktalk Title and author Brief background/summary Reading of a passage Relevant information ◦ Awards, connection to other books, etc. Audience Section of a library Length: approximately four minutes

To Remember… Enthusiasm Sell! Sell! Sell! Eye-contact Volume Use of multimedia, videos, etc. can also enhance the presentation A copy (or copies) of the book

The Process… Spend time listing ideas about a few different books you have read Don’t necessarily go for your favorite but one that others would be interested in Start drafting a few different booktalks Share with your group and see what they would be interested. One book per class. Revise one to share with the class
