Abs. Value: The distance between 0 & a # on the # line

Acute Angle: An angle measuring less than 90 degrees

Area: The # of sq. units that covers a shape or figure

Base: The bottom of a plane or 3D figure

Composite #: A natural # that is not prime

Face: A flat surface of a 3D figure

Bisect: To divide into 2 congruent(equal) parts

Index: # in front of the radical sign

Inequality: a mathematical expression which shows that 2 quantities are not equal

Infinity: A limitless quantity

Integers: The set of #’s including 0, the natural #’s, & all the negatives of the natural #’s

Isosceles Triangle: A triangle with at least two equal sides

Line: A straight set of points that extends in both directions

Locus: A path of points

Mean: The sum of the data values divided by the # of data values

Median: The middle # in a sorted list of #’s

Mode: # that appears most often in a set

Notation: A system of symbols used to represent special things

Octagon: A polygon with eight sides

Percent: A fraction or ratio in which the denominator is assumed to be 100. The symbol % is used for percent

Plane: A flat surface that stretches into infinity

Point: A location in a plane or in space, having no dimensions

Power: Indicates a # multiplied by itself a # of times

Simplify: Represents an equation in its simplest form

Prime #: a # whose only factors are 1 & itself

The distance from the center to a point on a circle; the line segment from the center to a point on a circle.

Scale Drawing: A drawing that is a reduction or enlargement of the original

Slope: The steepness of a line expressed as a ratio, using any two points on the line.

Square Root: x is the number that, when multiplied by itself, gives the number, x.

Transversal: A line that intersects other lines

Vertex: The point on an angle where the sides meet

Volume: A measurement of space, or capacity
