O VERVIEW ● Changes to Data Elements ● Pre-Kindergarten Reporting Addition ● Crosswalk Changes ● Questions?

C HANGES TO D ATA E LEMENTS ● A Record Possibility of removing some submission types  The options would be:  ABCDEFGIJ  ABCDEFIJ  ABG Please give feedback on this change Divisions who do not have I or J records will still be able to use the ABCDEFIJ submission type

C HANGES TO D ATA E LEMENTS ● B Record Changes Reactivation of Teacher Birthdate  Title I needs this for reporting in the future Addition of First Year Teacher flag  Needed by Licensure for federal reporting  Will be added as an additional field instead of reactivating teacher experience fields

C HANGES TO D ATA E LEMENTS ● C Record Changes Drop the leading zero from SCED Subject Area  Will make it easier to use Excel to make changes in files  Will accept the leading zero in reporting Replace the Course Identifier with the SCED Course Number  Used to make it easier to locate classes without joining the SCED Subject Area with the Course Identifier Retirement of the SCED Course Level and SCED Grade Span/Available Credit  No longer needed in MSC, but will still be used on transcripts

C HANGES TO D ATA E LEMENTS ● C Record Changes Reconfiguration of the SCED Sequence  Will be used to identify classes taken in parts (like semesters) instead of being used to identify specific courses Addition of Virginia Course Type  This field will decipher between courses using the same SCED code  Examples include:  Leveled courses (levels I, II, III, etc. as well as 18/36 week courses)  Pre-IB courses  Grade Level courses (Gr 6, Gr 7, Gr 8 used for fine arts)

C HANGES TO D ATA E LEMENTS ● C Record Changes Addition of the Associated Test Code  Will be used to determine if a class has an SOL test attached to it  Required because we do not currently have this information available  Especially important for Integrated Math and Science classes Retirement of the Virginia Course Code field

C HANGES TO D ATA E LEMENTS ● D Record Changes Retirement of the Highly Qualified Code and Flexibility Criteria Flag  These changes are being made to comply with ESSA starting next year

C HANGES TO D ATA E LEMENTS ● F Record Changes Addition of Pass/Fail Flag  Because divisions report their own grades and grade scales vary greatly throughout the state, this flag is need to determine if a student passed the class

R EPORTING A DDITION ● Pre-Kindergarten students Reporting required for the 11 VPI+ divisions on the EOY Reporting required for ALL divisions on the MSC See Superintendent’s Memo #  New Pre-K Data Requirements for Master Schedule Collection for End of Year and Fall

C HANGES TO THE C ROSSWALK ● Prior to Secondary codes will now have a different Subject Area to match the Secondary Subject Area Example: 51 for English will now be 01 ● Most Secondary codes will stay the same ● Instruction will be reviewing and adding new courses to the crosswalk based on the addition of nearly 1,200 codes to the most recent SCED crosswalk

C HANGES TO THE C ROSSWALK ● Virginia Course Codes will no longer be valid The VA Course Code field will be retired completely  The field will become a filler field ● General grade level codes (grades 1-8) will no longer be available for use Example: Grade 2 must now be broken down into subject reporting Pre-K and Kindergarten codes still may be used

C HANGES TO THE C ROSSWALK ● Local Elective Use Please review your local elective courses to make sure you are using the correct code If there are not codes for your classes, please send the class description to so we can have Instruction look into adding a Local elective codes should not be used unless absolutely necessary and if approved by VDOE

MSC D ATES ● Finalized Data Elements will be released on May 1 st ● First Draft of the SCED crosswalk will be released on May 1 st ● SCED Crosswalk will be finalized by August 1 st ● Fall MSC will open on October 15 th
