Entry Task February 12, 2016  Take out your English Notebook, and set up a page for “Third Quarter Outside Reading” notes.

Today’s GoalsToday’s Goals You will be able to: Understand the basics of the Third- Quarter outside reading assessment. Understand Vocabulary expectations for second semester. You will show this by: Taking notes / asking questions about the Third-Quarter outside reading assessment.. Beginning vocabulary list 8.

Third Quarter Outside Reading Project 2 – 3 Minute Book Trailer You will be allowed to work in groups of 2 – 3 to read the same book, and then together, use video editing software to create a movie-type trailer for your book. Your mission is to inform and entertain your audience while depicting the major plot points, characters, settings, tone, and style of your book. Video-Editing Software Options: Free – Wevideo from Google Pay – iMovie ($4.99 with trailer software & higher quality) Video-Editing Software Options: Free – Wevideo from Google Pay – iMovie ($4.99 with trailer software & higher quality)

Editing Requirements Use your phone or other digital device. OR Use animation, photo montages, or film footage. Use film editing software to: Trim – remove unwanted frames Split – cut clips into smaller sections Add transitions Add text Add a soundtrack

Content Requirements Make sure your video creatively gives senses of: Characters, plot & setting. Tone(s) of the book. Think use of filters and soundtracks. Theme(s) of the book. 2-3 Minutes

Quality Expectations This is an outside-of-class project! Make sure that you create something that you are proud of. Instead of using limited resources as an excuse, use them as an opportunity for creativity. Do work that you are proud to show to the rest of the class.

Group Check-In Requirements Three times throughout the quarter, you will be responsible for meeting with your group to catch up on your progress on the book. There will be graded work associated with these meetings. Use your reminder bookmark to stay on track.  Monday, February 29 (First 1/3 of book read)  Monday, March 7 (Middle 1/3 of book read)  Monday, March 21 (Final 1/3 of book read) Trailer Presentations Will Be Friday, April 1.

ABCD *The plot, characters & setting of the book are summarized in a creative and captivating way. *The summary gives the viewer an understanding of characters, plot and setting. *The chronological plot points are unclear, though other parts of the story are present. *There is little to no evidence that the book has been read. *The theme and tone, are made vividly clear through use of color, pacing and soundtrack. *The use of color, pacing, and soundtrack give the viewer a good idea of theme and tone. *There is limited use of color, pacing, or soundtrack to relate theme or tone of the book. *Content concerning them and tone are unclear. *Editing techniques create a seamless viewing experience. *Editing techniques are used with some jarring effects on the viewers. *Some attempt at editing has been made, but the effect is not seamless. *Little to no evidence of editing is present. This Will Be A Summative Grade
