Coordination and Policy Development in Preparation for a European Open Biodiversity Knowledge Management System Supported by the European Commission through its FP7 research funding programme pro-iBiopshere

Task 2.3 Task 2.3 Exchange and dissemination of good practices by providing exemplar training with focus groups Quentin Groom National Botanic Garden, Belgium

Current projects using e-Taxonomy tools The Manual of the Alien plants of Belgium > 500,000 views and 4,500 pages of content A referenced checklist of the Flore d’Afrique Centrale Agaricus > 16,000 views and 200 pages of content

Possible future uses of e-tools Flore de la Belgique … Boletaceae of Centrale Africa What is restricting uptake of taxonomic tools for these and other projects?

Task 2.3 Description Objective – To introduce taxonomists and application developers to different e-taxonomy tools. – To see where e-taxonomy projects have succeeded. – To identify their limitations that are restricting uptake. – To identify where knowledge gaps exist.

Task 2.3 Deliverables & Milestones – A report to be delivered in month 12 – A workshop on e-Taxonomy tools in February 2013

Task 2.3 Workshop To be achieved during the workshop. – Demonstrate tools such as Scratchpads, Edit Taxonomic Editor, Xper2 etc. – Discuss usage cases of the different tools. – Brainstorm technology gaps

Task 2.3 Report To be summarized the current status of e-Taxonomy projects – A review of the current position – Predicting future requirements
