The Purpose… The purpose of this presentation is to help you achieve your educational goals through effective organization and time management strategies.

Keeping a Planner 1.Pick the right planner  Find one that fits inside your backpack or purse.  Find one with plenty of writing space. 2.Name your planner  When you name an object, you give it more presence in your life.  You’re less likely to neglect something with a name and a strong identity. 3.Make the planner part of your daily routine  Carry it with you at all times.  Check it every morning and every night. 4.Fill in your assignments/due dates as soon as you get them  Write down corresponding textbook pages and things the professor tells you to include. Presentor: Pam Hanson

Keeping a Planner (Continued) 5.Learn to use backward planning  Review your plans two or three days before to remind yourself of an approaching due date/event. 6.Use color-coding system for quick reference  Assign one color per class. 7.Put everything in your planner  Tests, homework, conferences, parties, etc. 8.Use flags  These are helpful to remind yourself of major problem due dates. 9.Save your old planner  You never know if it will come in handy. Presentor: Pam Hanson

Don’t Forget… Assignment due dates Test dates Celebrations (parties, dates, etc) PPR, Generalist practice test dates Sign-up deadlines for school events such as applying for student teaching, applying for graduation, etc. Fee due dates School holidays (remember they may not apply to online assignment due dates) Financial aid deadlines. Presentor: Pam Hanson

Save Important Textbooks Be sure to save literacy textbooks and other content area textbooks (ex. social studies/science) How you will use these textbooks later…  Use in research assignments such as theories and child development classroom projects. Organize textbooks by content area. Store in a safe place but easy to access (ex. using in reviewing for state exams specifically on the literacy competencies.) Presenter: Claudia Hernandez

Save Past Assignments Store by subject (ex. Literacy assignments, social studies and science-study guides/exams. Buy large binder clips to hold assignments by course. I always place the syllabus on top and clip together. Use folders to organize assignments (if binder clips won’t hold). Label the folder/store Presentor: Claudia Hernandez

Filing System Presentor: Carolyn Peak
