Command and Request Grammar

Discussion time Just imagine if you were in the following situations, what would you do…

You need to ask someone to close the door but you cannot do it yourself. There are many people in the room but you cannot tell who are important and who are not. So how do you do it politely? Situation 1

A bear is about to approach a boy. What do you say to him to make sure that he won’t be hurt? Situation 2

Step1, three students make up a group named student A, B and C. Step2, every group should think of at least 3 commands that your parents, teachers or other elders usually give. Step3, student A give the first commands. Then student B ask student C what did student A say. At last, student C should change the request from direct speech into indirect speech. Step4. Change roles so each person gets the chance to give some commands and turn them into indirect speech. Rules of the game

Example: student A (as a mother): Clean the window. student B: What did your mother tell/ ask us? student C: She asked us to clean the window.

“Can you lend me five yuan?” he asked me. He asked me to lend himfive yuan. He asked me if I could lend him five yuan.

The English teacher said to us, “Don’t speak Chinese, speak English.” She said to him, “ Don’t play a trick on me again.” The English teacher told us not to speak Chinese but to speak English. She told him not to play a trick on her again.

Fun Time It is said that there are two robots. One is called “slave robot”, who can only hear commands, the other is called “friend robot”, who can only respond to request. If you give correct requests or commands, they will do whatever you have them do. Believe it or not! Let’s have a try!!!!!
