DIFFERENT DIMENSIONS OF CHRISTMAS
Presentation transcript:

Silence to Praise The Ever Faithfulness of an Unchanging God Luke 1:5-25, 57-79

 Zechariah’s Doubt (Luke 1:16-17) He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

 Zechariah’s Doubt (Luke 1:18) Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.”

 Zechariah’s Doubt (Luke 1:19-20) The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news. And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words….

 Zechariah’s Doubt (Luke 1:23-24) When his time of service was completed, he returned home. After this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant and for five months remained in seclusion.

 In spite of our faithlessness, God remains faithful.

Zechariah’s Silence (Luke 26-56)

 Zechariah’s Hope (Luke 1:57-58)  When it was time for Elizabeth to have her baby, she gave birth to a son. Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her great mercy, and they shared her joy.

 Zechariah’s Choice (Luke 1:59-62)  On the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to name him after his father Zechariah, but his mother spoke up and said, “No! He is to be called John.” They said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who has that name.” Then they made signs to his father, to find out what he would like to name the child.

 Zechariah’s Praise (Luke 1:63-64)  He asked for a writing tablet, and to everyone’s astonishment he wrote, “His name is John.” Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue set free, and he began to speak, praising God.

 In every season, God is present to each of us in the faithful fulfillment of His promises.

 In every season, will you trust Jesus and choose to obey Him as he is always faithful to you?

 Luke 1:68-79 “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come to his people and redeemed them. He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago), salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us— to show mercy to our ancestors and to remember his holy covenant,

 Luke 1:68-79 the oath he swore to our father Abraham: to rescue us from the hand of our enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.

 Luke 1:68-79 And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God,

 Luke 1:68-79 by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.”
