Objectives of our working group To discuss: –Data collection strategies –Need for indicators
Data collection strategies Existing guidelines –Overview of possible methodologies –Deliberately not very detailed –Examples of exercises that have already been undertaken (1 for each methodology)
Data collection strategies What is the purpose of the data collection? –Different depending on the agencies, situation What is profiling? –In some cases: demographic data –Other cases: demographic data known, gaps unknown Generic methodology, tailored to the situation
Data collection strategies Elements influencing the choice of methodology: –Purpose, required data: WHAT? –Time required/available: HOW LONG? –Location of IDPs: CONDITIONS? –Required precision The importance of each can be different according to the context.
Data collection strategies
Not very logical Maybe decision tree is not the best representation Issues with the time aspect of the decision tree Matrix of methodologies
Data collection strategies More dimensions are required time IDP camp Dispersed rural area Village rural area Suburban area Urban area Different methodologies
Data collection strategies Possible solutions: –A hybrid decision model using the decision tree and the tables –Using multiple tables
Need for indicators Indicators in the existing guidelines: –Core indicators: #, age, gender, origin –Family history –Displacement –Food and nutrition –Coping mechanisms –etc
Need for indicators “Pre” Profiling indicators location numbers Core Profiling indicators Extended Profiling indicators Ranking …
