INFSO-RI Enabling Grids for E-sciencE Demonstrations Session Introduction Bob Jones 2 nd EGEE conference Den Haag, Netherlands 24 rd November 2004

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI nd EGEE conference - 23 rd November What is the purpose of this session? Get a first viewing of the application demos that could potentially be shown during the EU review of the EGEE project 9-11 February 2005 See what is the potential for establishing more significant demonstration sessions at future EGEE conferences and other key events

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI nd EGEE conference - 23 rd November EU review and key events We have a very limited time for demonstrations at the EU review –This time must also include an introduction and significant time for questions & answers –Need to cover several areas of the project:  BioMedical Pilot application domain  “Generic” applications from other scientific domains  Initial usage of gLite Consequently, we cannot use all the demonstrations that will be presented today –Those applications not used for the review will still be mentioned –The project is starting to receive requests to perform demos at other events  This session will help to establish a catalog of potential demos that are available for such events

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI nd EGEE conference - 23 rd November Criteria for demos Points to be taken into account in the evaluation of demos –Scientific importance –Is the added value of the grid obvious? –Visual impact –Status of deployment of the application  Stand-alone, running on GILDA, running on production service, etc. –Time required for the demo –Maturity of the demo itself –Availability of personnel for the CERN  1 st rehearsal: 13 Jan  2 nd rehearsal: 20 Jan  Dress rehearsal (2-4 Feb) –Technical requirements for the demonstration  Limits the events at which it can be used

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI nd EGEE conference - 23 rd November Session organisation Very full agenda! –total of 9 demos so 15 minutes per demo maximum!!!! Limited infrastructure –Shared conference wireless network connectivity –2 projectors If something goes wrong then please use your powerpoint slides instead of the live demo We appreciate the set-up is not optimal but we can still get an impression of the potential of the demos here today Many thanks for your understanding, your effort to attend and all your preparatory work

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI nd EGEE conference - 23 rd November Agenda Introduction Demos (15 mins each) –CDSS –gPTM3D –Earth Science (Egeode) –Computational Chemistry –Astro-particle physics (MAGIC) –Video-on-demand –ARDA/ALICE –ARDA/LHCb
