Background Information Area : approx. 271 Km 2 Population: approx. 2.64M Life expectancy: –Male years –Female years 2

Infant and child mortality rate and rank in 27 OECD countries

Leading causes of death among infant, child and adolescent in Taiwan,

Purpose To prevent children < 6 y/o from accidental injuries, we worked together with multidiscipline to form a taskforce for developing the Save Children and Infant From Injuries project (the SCIFI project) in Taipei City since 2012.

6 the SCIFI Project Due to limited resources, we should focus on the “targets”. Yearly safety goals for children and infants 1.Safety of sleep 2.Safety of home 3.Safety of traffic focus on child safety car seat

the SCIFI Project Physician Based Injury Prevention Counseling program * More than 400 cooperated clinics Home Visit Injury Prevention program * Children of minority and immigrant families Child Safety Car Seat rental program *MKMH

Results (1/3) Age–appropriate safety questionnaires for injury prevention counseling clinics Pamphlet for home safety for children

Results (2/3) The usage of the injury prevention counseling clinics was 57,689 times in “train-the-trainer” courses for the SCIFI project were held, and 189 healthcare providers were trained. –The satisfaction rate was up to 90%. 123 cases were visited for home safety, and the incident of falling was 51.45% from the injury diary.

Results (3/3) Since 2012/07, children under the age of four or weighing under 18kg travelling in cars are required to be seated in a child-safety seat secured in the back seat. Cooperated with a local child safe car seat manufacture and a medical center (MacKay Memorial Hospital), we established the first free child safety car seat rental service in Taipei.

Conclusion According to our preliminary experience, we will focus on falling prevention for the home visits program and recruit more hospitals to implement the rental services of child safety car seat in The injury prevention for children needs teamwork to achieve our final goals to allowing our beloved children to grow up in a healthy and safe environment.
