LACY GATES Introduction EDU 671

A Little About Me! I am the oldest of three girls. My sisters and I are pretty close in age. Each of my sisters have a son and those boys are my world. I currently live with my one sister and her son. I grew up in a small town near Penn State University. I enjoy scrapbooking, crafts, being with family and friends. I have 8 tattoos, one of which my sisters, mother and one cousin all have the same, in remembrance of my aunt who passed away from cancer 10 years ago. I have worked in child care for the past 11 years, up until last February I worked at the local YMCA. I have worked with all age groups from 6 weeks to 6 th grade. I currently with infants, and I love to see how they grow and learn new things.

I had a pretty good educational experience from K-12. There was only one year I wish I had a different teacher, because he was not really nice to me. He treated me as if I was stupid and did not know anything, that was only 4 th grade. When I went into 6 th grade our teacher was only there for a few days and then went on sabbatical. Having my 6 th grade teacher go on sabbatical was probably the best thing ever. The teacher that replaced my original 6 th grade teacher was the best hands down. She was very loving and caring and took the time to understand and get to know each of us. She made us feel as if we could do just about anything. She really worked hard with me and helped me out, because I was struggling with some subjects at that point. She is the reason why I went into education.

In the future I would like to become a director of a daycare of open my own daycare. If I’m not able to either of those then I would like to become a Kindergarten teacher for a private school. I believe in getting my masters degree I will have a more likely opportunity in todays world to move up the career ladder. With the way the world is going if you do not have a degree you are not really going to get anywhere in your current field.

Educational Quote “I’m more interested in arousing enthusiasm in kids than in teaching the facts. The facts may change, but that enthusiasm for exploring the world will remain with them the rest of their lives.” Seymour Simon
