Where is Cambrai located ? Cambrai is located in the North of France, about 180 kilometers far from Paris. How many inhabitants are there in Cambrai ? There are about inhabitants in Cambrai. W ho is at the head of the City ? What is the blazon of the City ? A two-headed eagle. François-Xavier VILLAIN – The Mayor of Cambrai

Who are the electors ? The people living in Cambrai. Who do they vote for ? The Town Councillors. How long are they elected for ? 6 years. What are they in charge of ? They deal with all that directly concerns the City and the inhabitants ( roadworks, buildings, sports facilities…) How is the Mayor elected ? The Town Councillors gather and vote in their turn to designate the Mayor and the Deputy Mayors.

First, the Town Councillors hold an election for the new Mayor. Second, the votes are counted: to be elected, he has to gather more than 50 % of the votes.

Each Deputy Mayor is in charge of a department according to his skills. The department is composed of a few Town Councillors who have to deal with different issues connected with the life of the City.

He is elected for 6 years. He represents the State Authority within the City and he is also the representative of the City to the State. He celebrates weddings. He is in charge of the security within the City. He presides over the Town Council and he enforces the decisions met by the Town Councillors. He is at the head of the different City Departments and he is the chief of all the City employees. He organizes and rules the inner parking space and traffic.

People must be 18 years old. People must be registered on the electoral rolls. French citizens only can vote.
