Sentence Imitation A writing strategy

A great way to become a great writer is to READ! Sometimes we can be inspired by different sentences we read, and we can create our own sentences from them. We can also see great examples of proper sentence structure and grammar.

Today we are going to practice sentence imitation. First we will work as a team, then you will get to go find our own sentence in your own book to imitate. Let’s begin!

In the book My Big Fat Zombie Goldfish we find this sentence: “It sounded like someone falling down the back steps, bouncing off the little trampoline, and crashing into a sandbox.” If we just change the words, we can create our own similar sentence to use in our writing.

For example: “It sounded like an elephant sneezing, falling down to the ground, and landing on a drum set.” Now YOU try!

Now you will look in your own book to find some sentences to imitate. We will meet back at 12:55 to share the original sentences and our own.
