Giving in Slovakia Slovak Donors´ Forum

Giving in Slovakia Slovak Donors´ Forum (SDF) was officially registered in 2000 as the Interest Association of Legal Entities. SDF is the association of the donor leaders in Slovakia that respect the Code of Ethics enshrining fundamental ethical principles and values and thereby contributing to the enhancement of the culture of giving, openness and transparency of the whole non-profit sector in the Slovak Republic. In 2006 the Club of Corporate Donors was formed by SDF as an association of companies that do business in the Slovak Republic and corporate philanthropy is integral part of their entrepreneurship. All members of the Club are experienced in transparent and strategic giving. SDF is the partner organization in the international initiative CEENERGI - Central and Eastern European Network for Responsible Giving, and Donors and Foundations´ Networks Europe (DAFNE). SDF is a member of the Government Council for the NGOs as well as prestigious worldwide network Worldwide Initiatives for Grantmaker Support (WINGS).

Giving in Slovakia... the most popular tools in individual giving... financial donations  donations to a poor box in the church (55 %)  donations to a box of NGO (53 %/)  donations via charitable SMS (32 %) or call (20 %)  bank money transfer (4 %) or ATM machines (3 %) buying of the products supporting charity purposes   post cards (47 %)  lottery tickets (31 %)  magazine from homeless people (29 %)  tickets for charitable event (11 %)  other e.g. Avon, League against cancer (11 %) * Source: Sasakawa Peace Foundation and Focus, public poll, 2006

Giving in Slovakia... some interesting figures about Slovaks...  not even half (46 %) of the Slovak adult population has supported any NGO by financial contribution in the past  access to information about NGO and its good name/brand are becoming more and more important for individual donors  majority of population believes that NGOs have enough space in media, however, those information are very often confusing and definitely not clear to understand Source: Slovak Donors Forum and Focus, public poll, 2007

Giving in Slovakia Public collections 950 collections were conducted in Slovakia in the period of 2000 – 2008 * /by NGOs and companies/ Collections permitted by Ministry of Interior: 2005: 65 collections 2006: 61 collections 2007: 83 collections 2008: 91 collections * Source: Register of public collections administered by Ministry of Interior

Giving in Slovakia DMS messages  rather new approach towards public collection  fundraising tool easily brought home  standard regulation /technical, legal and fiscal conditions/  simple and transparent common rules  equal access for all NGOs  support in communication DMS is a registered trademark and SDF is a license holder for Slovakia.

Giving in Slovakia Cooperation between NGOs and companies Corporate giving  direct support (long term, one-shot support)  collections among employees, matching funds, payroll giving  corporate foundations  charity events such as auctions, exhibitions  expert backup and pro bono service  providing background such as office rooms or meeting facilities  creating opportunity for NGOs to present on company events, company magazines, company web site  corporate volunteerism or secondment  board membership, membership in grant committees Sponsoring Campaigns Cause-related marketing Social franchising

Giving in Slovakia... some interesting figures about Slovak companies...  97 % of analyzed companies thinks positively about the support of public benefit activities and is convinced that it is important for companies to invest into community  86 % of companies supported public benefit projects by means of financial donations  55 % of companies used also in-kind contributions  72 % of companies used also (social) sponsoring  Cause-related marketing was used only by four companies in 2007 Source: Slovak Donors´ Forum and Trend, Study on the stage of Corporate Philanthropy in Slovakia, 2008

SKK (4,66 mil. €) = 21 companies listed in the ranking TOP Corporate Philanthropist 2008  social sponsoring in 2007: 142 mil.
