Human Physiology: Co-ordination and Control. Chapter-08

Endocrine Glands ( Adrenal, Thymus, Pancreas and Pineal Glands)

 tell the name of different types of endocrine glands  tell the name of hormones  describe the functions of hormones. After completing this lesson students should be able to…

Adrenal Gland

1. Glucocorticoids: Synthesis of glycogen 2. Mineralocorticoids : Metabolism of minerals 3. Gonadocorticoids: Development of sex gland, gonads, secondary sex characters. 4. Epinephrine: Increases heart rate, blood pressure and decreases urine production. 5. Norepinephrine : Maintains normal blood pressure.

Thymus Gland It situated in the upper part of the chest made up of two lobes Thymosin : Formation of lymphocyte and antibody and deposition of minerals in the bones.

Pancreas

Pineal Gland

Islets of Langerhans 1.Insulin: Decreases the glucose level in blood 2. Glucagon: Increasing the glucose level in blood. 3. Somatostatin : Inhibits the alpha and beta cells of pancreas.

Pineal Gland It is located in the thalamus of the brain. Oval structure. Melatonin : Influences sleep-wake cycle, skin color of body.

Write down the names and functions of hormones that are secreted from the adrenal gland. Write down the functions of hormones secreted from the pancreas. Group-AGroup-B

 Having seen the coming of a mad-dog towards Sujon, he took shelter in a safe place. His heart was beating rapidly created beating sound. Besides this he urinates frequently. Doctor said,” a leaf-like and pink coloured mixed gland is responsible for Sujon’s urinating problem.” a.What is mixed gland? b.What is meant by Islets of Langerhans? c.Describe the location and function of the mentioned gland responsible for repid heart beating of Sujon. d.Analyze the doctor’s statement.

Make a list of hormones and their functions.
