Born April 21, 1838 in Dunbar, Scotland Died December 24, 1914 in Los Angeles, California Immigrated to Wisconsin at age 11 in1849 Began School at age 3 Attended University of Wisconsin for 2 and 1/2 years from Occupation: Environmental Activist and Journalist. He was a wilderness explorer.

He was America’s most famous and influential naturalist and conservationist. His writings contributed greatly to many National parks. Such as Yosemite, Sequoia, Mount Rainier, Petrified forest, and the Grand Canyon. John Muir took a stand against the destructive side of humanity, showed to others the importance and beauty of nature by experiencing it himself and writing about them to share with others. Examples: foot tour of Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, and Canada in 1863
