“Sustainability”- the Gold Ring What are we trying to “sustain” from TAACCCT? – Instructional Solutions Curriculum, pedagogies, assessments, etc. – Academic Program Solutions Outreach and recruitment, advising and student support services, accelerated credentials, etc. – Leadership Community Expertise, conceptual frameworks, commitment and passion to solve problems, ideas-research findings, etc. Relationships with partnering stakeholders, including industry, workforce associations, community, and higher ed Products & Services sustained through a living library – SkillsCommons Community of Colleagues networking and collaborating on projects- TAACCCT IMPACTCommunities

Sounds “Good” But… Let’s Get Real… We all have limited time for anything “new” limited priorities for anything outside our institution limited control of anything that is collaborative with other organizations What Can I Get From the IMPACTCommunities that: I Really Need – What is ESSENTIAL for success? I Can’t Find a Substitute – What I can’t get anywhere else?

Sustainability Markers What is ESSENTIAL? What is NOT SUBSTITUTABLE? If we can answer these questions, We key ingredients for a sustainable strategy… These are the questions that will thread through our planning activities today.

Scaling Sustainability Sustaining success at many levels – At your project level – what do you need within your current project? – At the TAACCCT program level – what do the collective grantees need across the US? – At the national higher ed & workforce development level – what do theses stakeholders need? The interactions between all these levels are part of the SkillsCommons Sustainability Strategy

Collaboration is Key to Sustainability in Higher Ed Where can I get the resources I need to continue my program/project/services when the grant ends? To get funds… – Collaboration provides a methodology to scale impact and to distribute risks which can make it more attractive to invest in your program. To get the products and services… – Collaboration provides a trusted community to exchange valued resources without (much) funding. To get the people… – Collaboration provides a trusted community to exchange expertise and labor without (much) funding.

In Summary… Building collaborative communities is a key strategy for sustaining TAACCCT programs at your institutions and beyond. For collaborative communities to be successful, we have to design them to deliver essential and non- substitutable value to its members. YOU ARE THE LEADERS WHO CAN BUILD ESSENTIAL AND NON-SUBSTITUTABLE VALUE INTO THE DESIGN OF THESE COMMUNITIES!
