Everyone write an argumentative counterclaim and thesis statement. Defend Refute Qualify

Potataloes The potatalo is a genetically modified organism using components of a bison and a potato. It will provide complete nutrition to the hungry people of the world. To solve world hunger, and thin out over-crowded prisons, I propose feeding convicted criminals to the potataloes. Defend/Refute/Qualify. Counterclaim and thesis statement.

Everyone write a counterclaim to your previous thesis statement.

What are the various types of support evidence in argumentative writing?

How do you conclude your argument?

Restate major points? Provide a prediction of what the situation will be like in 10 years (20, 30 whatever) if the situation does not change. Connect to a higher issue: American Ideals of Liberty, freedom, justice, hard work, fairness etc.

The small stuff Phrase vs. Clause? Identifying types of clauses. Connecting phrases and clauses. Using conjunctive adverbs. Knowing which conjunctive adverb to select. Opposition/Agreement-Addition/Cause-Effect.

A periodic sentence contributes to restrained pacing and creates suspense. (Change?) We normally state our main clause first, this is known as a loose sentence. (Change?)
