NATA Foundation Research Awards Process Announcements sent out (August & September) to NATA membership regarding nominations being solicited for the following awards (nominations due by October 5): Medal for Distinguished Athletic Training Research New Investigator Award Doctoral Dissertation Award Announcements sent out (August & September) to NATA membership regarding nominations being solicited for the following awards (nominations due by October 5): Medal for Distinguished Athletic Training Research New Investigator Award Doctoral Dissertation Award Submission Process Nominees are reviewed to ensure they meet eligibility criteria: Medal for Distinguished Athletic Training Research (as of Oct. 1 of the nomination year) o The nominee must possess a doctoral degree such as PhD, EdD, JD, etc. o At least fifteen (15) years must have passed from the date of degree conferral and the nomination deadline. o The nominee must be a current NATA member & BOC certified athletic trainer in good standing. o Current members of the NATA Foundation Research Committee and Board of Directors are not eligible for consideration for this award. NATA Foundation Research Awards Process Submission Process Nominees meeting the eligibility criteria, by the NATA Foundation office, and requested to submit the required materials in early October. Letters of support are requested from those individuals identified by the nominee by the NATA Foundation office by October 15. NOTE: An individual may only submit a single letter of support. Thus, one individual cannot write letters of support on behalf of multiple nominees. NATA Foundation Research Awards Process Review Process (Medal for Distinguished Athletic Training Research) The selection criteria are outlined for each award: Medal for Distinguished Athletic Training Research o Selection Criteria The nominee must have demonstrated a prolific & sustained body of research in athletic training. The nominee must have demonstrated a focused & productive research career that has advanced theory and significantly impacted the athletic training profession. The following will also be considered:  Quality & consistency of work over time  Ability to secure funding to support research  Sustained level of excellence in a single focused area  Clearly demonstrated research independence The selection criteria are outlined for each award: Medal for Distinguished Athletic Training Research o Selection Criteria The nominee must have demonstrated a prolific & sustained body of research in athletic training. The nominee must have demonstrated a focused & productive research career that has advanced theory and significantly impacted the athletic training profession. Doctoral Dissertation Award o The study & dissertation publication should reflect a high level of quality. o The dissertation publication should have impact & relevance to athletic training and health care of the physically active. o The dissertation publication should indicate future potential for a focused line of research. The selection criteria are outlined for each award: New Investigator Award o The nominee demonstrates the beginning of an independent research trajectory beyond mentor’s area of research. o The nominee demonstrates activities that enhance competitiveness for securing external funding. o The nominee’s research should have potential to impact the athletic training profession. o The nominee demonstrates a single focused, quality line of research in an area of importance to athletic training. NATA Foundation Research Awards Process Review Process The Research Committee recommends a recipient for each award, in some years no awards are given for certain awards, to the NATA Foundation BOD Recommendations are made during December Research Committee conference call and then submitted to BOD for consideration at their next meeting The Research Committee recommends a recipient for each award, in some years no awards are given for certain awards, to the NATA Foundation BOD Recommendations are made during December Research Committee conference call and then submitted to BOD for consideration at their next meeting The NATA Foundation BOD votes on the Research Committee’s recommendation Thanks for your interest in the NATA Foundation Research Awards Program!
