Biology PHOTOSYNTHESIS REVIEW GAME

Question 1: What is the chemical equation for photosynthesis?

Answer 1: CO 2 + H2O + SL  C 6 H 12 O 6 + O 2

Question 2: What is a stack of thylakoids called?

Answer 2: Grana

Question 3: Out of the 2 reactions of photosynthesis, which one(S) require sunlight?

Answer 3: Only the Light Dependent Reactions require the sunlight to occur.

Question 4: Where do the Light Dependent Reactions take place?

Answer 4 The LDR takes place in the thylakoids of the chloroplasts.

Question 5: What is the most important photosynthetic pigment?

Answer 5 Chlorophyll is the most important pigment found in plants

Question 6 What color is chlorophyll and why?

Answer 6: Chlorophyll is green because when white light (all the colors of the rainbow) shines on the plant, the chlorophyll absorbs all colors, but reflects the green wavelength.

Question 7: What gets broken down in the LDR? What does it get broken down into?

Answer 7: Water gets broken down in the LDR into oxygen, hydrogen ions and electrons

Question 8: What happens to each of the products produced from the splitting of water? Hydrogen ions? Electrons? Oxygen?

Answer 8: The hydrogen ions build up and then travel through the protein channel to help produce ATP. Some hydrogen ions attach to NADP+ becoming NADPH. The electrons refuel those that were lost to the ETC The oxygen is given off as a waste product and is released through the stomata.

Question 9 Is the following anabolic or catabolic? How do you know? ATP  ADP + P + E

Answer 9: Catabolic because bonds are being broken and energy is released.

Question 10: What are the products of the LDR of photosynthesis?

Answer 10: Oxygen NADPH ATP

Question 11 Which of the following are used in the overall reaction for photosynthesis? A. Carbon Dioxide B. Water C. Light D. All of the above

Answer 11: D- All of the above

Question 12: Where does the Calvin Cycle take place?

Answer 12: The Calvin Cycle takes place in the stroma of the chloroplast

Question 13: What will happen to the rate of photosynthesis if the light intensity decreases?

Answer 13 The rate will decrease if the light intensity decreases.

Question 14: Some bacteria, algae and plants are all considered to be?

Answer 14: Autotrophs

Question 14: What are the reactants of the Calvin Cycle?

Answer 15 The Calvin Cycle needs: Carbon dioxide ATP NADPH

Question 16: Name the products of the Calvin Cycle

Answer 16: The Calvin Cycle produces: Glucose ADP +P NADP+

Question 17: Which of the following affects the rate of photosynthesis? A. water B. temperature C. light intensity D. all of the above

Answer 17: D. All of the above

Question 18: Where does the energy come from that fuels the light dependent reactions of photosynthesis?

Answer 18: The Sun

Question 19: Where does the energy come from that fuels the Calvin Cycle?

Answer 19: ATP and NADPH

Answer 33 To actively transport the hydrogen ions across the thylakoid membrane from a low concentration to a high concentration.

Question 34 What is happening at the indicated arrow?

Answer 34: Hydrogen ions are flowing through the ATP Synthase. As they flow through, it causes it to turn like a water wheel or turbine. This is a source of energy and that energy is used to put the P back onto ADP to form ATP.
