This survey is given to students in grades throughout the state. For the 2014 school year, 587,128 students responded in sections being a bully, being bullied, picked on or teased, and feel safe in school.

Geographic information systems (GIS) are a means for computers to display spatial relationships in terms such as geographic, environmental, and population factors

GIS can allow researchers and social agencies to produce meaningful maps that could potentially influence policy and practice issues

Hypotheses #1 That self-reported cases will be display a distinct geospatial pattern than non-reported cases. #2 That the geography of the school and its students will reflect significant differences (urban vs rural).

Percentage of students who identify themselves as a bully within the past 30 days.

Percentage of students who identify themselves as being bullied within the past 30 days.

Percentage of students who identify themselves as picked on or teased within the past 30 days.

Percentage of students who feel safe in school.

Visualization of data is necessary to see the interrelationship of data across geography. Some factors that can change: leadership and participants change yearly if not sooner, cultural dynamics, and SES Race and SES were redacted from our data, however, generalizations could be made overlaying national data on these factors.

We saw a very similar pattern between the location of bullies and their victims. But population density could be considered a key factor in the representations above. However clearer patterns can emerge if you change the visualization (see next).
