Program Philosophy The Crowley ISD philosophy for gifted education is: To: Provide enriched academic learning experiences for identified gifted and talented students through a thematic program based on the study of language arts, history, science, and math. Crowley ISD Testing Procedure Nomination Process Screening Process Selection Process Three Part Process Crowley ISD

A student may be nominated annually by: parent legal guardian community member teacher peer self A parent or legal guardian must sign a permission to test form. Nomination Process

Screening Process A student may test annually. Once a student qualifies for the program, they remain in the program. A student must re-test for sixth into seventh grade. ( If an GATE student does not qualify for any of the four academic areas, they are placed in one class.) To qualify for entrance into the GATE Program, a student must have a preponderance of evidence demonstrating performance within the top 5 to 10 percent of the school population.

Preponderance of Evidence Preponderance of Evidence is defined: as a greater amount or most of something. a grid used to record qualitative student performance data collected in school. the data reflects three areas related to student performance: student production, information data, and cognitive/language data.

Preponderance of Evidence To qualify for entrance into the CISD GATE program a student must have a preponderance of evidence demonstrating performance within the top 5-10 percent of the school population.

Selection Process The final decision is made by a selection committee. The selection committee is composed of district educators who have received training in the nature and needs of gifted students. (State required 30 hour training) Possible members may include: Gifted and Talented Program Specialists Counselor Administrator or designee Other trained educators with the state required 30 hour training Three must be present to effect a decision

Appeals Process Parents may appeal a final decision of the selection committee regarding selection for the gifted program.
