Unit 65 – Video Equipment Abi Webb

Short throw projectors A short throw projector is the projector that you would use when you don’t have much space. It allows you to project a big picture from a shorter distance. Some short throw projectors include: Optoma ZX212ST, X305ST and X306ST.

Long throw projectors A long throw projector basically does the same thing as a short throw projector, but is just further away from where it’s projecting. It’s used in bigger spaces such as an outdoor cinema or projecting on the side of a building. For example, this projector (EH505) can be classes as long or short throw, depending on the lens used.

TV Screens A TV screen would usually be used in a smaller area, as opposed to a projector which would be better suited to a bigger area, as projections are bigger, so can be seen by more people in a bigger space.

LED Video Wall LED Video Walls are walls made up of little light bulbs that form to make one big picture, but they have to be seen from a distance as they are low resolution. They’re commonly used in a bigger space as they have to be seen from further away. LED Video Walls are used at Wembley or the O2.

Cameras Cameras can be used to display a live feed, for instance at concerts, so that people further away can still see what’s going on on the stage. They can also be used for projection for crowds outside, for example at the royal wedding.

Vision mixers A Vision mixer allows a number of video inputs to be switched between. For instance, depending on the model, you can split the screen and show a live video and a pre recorded video at the same time. Ross Video Vision 4

VGA Cable VGA (Video Graphics Array) allows people to send video signal from devices such as computers, to a video screen. Without it, you won’t get the video, like headphones without the wire. Without the wire, the headphones don’t get any sound.

HDMI Cable HDMI (High Definition Multi-Media Interface) sends both audio and video connection. With a HDMI Cable, you won’t need a VGA cable. It’s found a lot in home environments to connect HD multimedia (such as a camera) devices to a television.

BNC Cable BNC (Bayonet Neill-Concelman) cables are used for a coax cable. They’re usually used for professional occasion. Used for video and you can change the ends(it’s a locking connector).

Composite Video Composite Video Composite video is an anolog video transition (without audio) that carries standard definition video. A composite video cable sends all the colours down one cable, instead of three different ones. However, it is low resolution.

Componant Video Component video is where the colours for video are sent down two or more different cables. Component video is high resolution as because each cable has one colour to carry, giving it more space to carry a higher resolution.
