Project Concept (L2,L3,L4) In order to gain more web design experience I have also create an on-line portfolio for a classmate Alice Forester-Smith. This project will assist me in developing my design and development skills further. Alice wants to create a on-line presence to showcase her work which consists of illustrations, watercolours and graphic design imagery. Alice wants the web design to be represent the design industry and have a simplistic and clean design.

RELEVANT SOURCES (L2) I visited the Association of Illustrators website as this site provides a variety of different artists portfolios. The site includes a variety of illustration-based portfolios similar to the type that Alice wants to create to promote her work. Example of Illustration based on-line portfolio. Similar types of illustration work to Alice’s. Provides ideas for web design creation.

RELEVANT SOURCES L2 The awwwards website provides a variety of different illustration-based portfolios. Styles very from modern trend ‘flat style design’ to photography and sketch inspired web designs.

RELEVANT SOURCES L2 I also visiting linked in and looked at Illustrators who are working within the industry to see what skills sets are required to undertake their role and how they promote themselves online.

RELEVANT SOURCES (L2) I also viewed a range of job vacancies through LinkedIn and recruitment sites to see what skills companies require when recruiting a illustration- based role. By researching this it will help identify key skills employers look for in candidates. Within the web design I will try and communicate with potential employers that Alice has a certain skill-set they are looking for.

RELEVANT SOURCES (L2) I also viewed a range of portfolio inspiration articles, showcasing a range of artists portfolios who use different forms of media and have different methods and styles to creating an on- line presence.

RELEVANT SOURCES (L2) I viewed a range of artists online portfolios who created watercolour and used other forms of medium to create artwork similar to Alice’s. An example of this is Sasha Prood’s website (left). The site is heavily focused with Sasha’s portfolio and showcasing the artwork well.

RELEVANT SOURCES (L2) I also conducted some research on creating a portfolio and found some useful information from the Computer Arts Portfolio handbook and also how to create a portfolio and get hired. Both sources discuss the best methods to present work, what to include and how to get noticed.

PROJECT MOODBAORD Together with Alice we created a project mood-bard, gathering images, typography and colour schemes that we felt were interest and could use as sources of inspiration for the website design.

PROJECT MOODBAORD Other sources used for inspiration and the design of the project were Adobe Kuler, this tool enabled me to show Alice a range of possible colour scheme choices to use for her site, along with Da Fonts & Google fonts which was used to consider typography styles for the webiste.

Web Design Sketches

Website Wireframe A wireframe was created for the site using Balsamiq mockups tool – this allowed me to develop my initial sketches for the website design further before creating within Photoshop.

Initial Website Design (L2,L3,L4) Following the wireframe creation a web mock-up was created in Photoshop. The main header section of the website include a piece of Alice’s watercolour paintings (left). Alice wants a key focus of her website to be centered around her portfolio, therefore a larger section of the site has been designed to focus around this. Alice is interested also in social media, and requested that social media contact icnos would be implemented within the design (bottom).

Initial Website Design (L2,L3,L4) I then began to add elements of Alice’s work into the design which are vector based, watercolour and illustration based. I added also a twitter feed and instagram feed into the design, requested by Alice.

Initial Website Design (L2,L3,L4) For the web design we experimented with different header types such as a photography or Alice and A photo of her hometown in Chester (below).

PROJECT MANAGEMENT 7 TASK ALLOCATION (L3) For the project management of the project I will use google calendar. This allows me to create events and weekly tasks that I need to work to. I can also set reminders for tasks and can set the programme to alert me via and text. By creating these reminders and tasks it helps keep the project on track and me focused on the task in hand.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT 7 TASK ALLOCATION (L3) When creating these reminders and tasks I will keep in my the key project dates for this module as above: Project Milestones Week 33- brief formally issued Week 33-38: Assignment Seminar tasks, Exhibition Consideration discussions Week 35– In tutorial presentation of draft version of Portfolio. You will receive verbal feedback during the tutorial. After 21 days you will receive a written version of this feedback. This presentation will assess against all module Learning Outcomes.
