Bionic Arm Project Abby Heekin

Project The purpose of this experiment was to create a bionic arm that could pass at least two of four tests. The four tests tested how far the arm could reach, dexterity, heavy-lifting and building a brick wall. The bionic arm I designed passed three of the four tests.

Motor I decided on the air muscle option for the motor. This choice was cost effective and had enough torque and envelope for the dexterity and envelope test.

Hand The Bionic hand I found was the best option. The hand is flexible and has some strength.

Material I used titanium material for the bionic arm. Titanium is very strong and durable, effective during the weight testing

Final Choice

Envelope Test The bionic arm passed the first test– the envelope test– in which it was able to reach every block.

Dexterity Test The bionic arm also passed the dexterity test.

Weight Test The bionic arm did not completely pass the weight test. The bionic hand and titanium provided moderate strength, but not enough to lift the 10 kg block.

Brick Wall Test The Bionic arm passed the brick wall test. The bionic arm had enough torque and dexterity.
