Capital Improvement Project Town of Chelmsford IT FY2007

Wireless & Mobile Network Connects all Town Buildings Connect Town network with School network Connect Police Cruisers, Fire, Health Dept, Engineering & Emergency Management Vehicles to Town Network.

WiMax Technology WiMAX is a standards-based wireless technology that provides high-throughput broadband connections over long distances. WiMAX systems can deliver a capacity of up to 75 Mbps per channel, for fixed and portable access applications. This is enough bandwidth to simultaneously support hundreds of businesses with T-1 speed connectivity

Who’s using this Technology City of Methuen: Mobile connectivity for Police, Fire DPW and high speed connections to the cruisers as well as access to video surveillance. Town of Barnstable: Building to building connectivity w/ 15 buildings County of San Diego: Mobile Connectivity for over 450 Sheriff patrol vehicles and over 40 facilities including station houses, courts and jails covering over 4000 square miles. State of Maryland: Over 1000 public safety vehicles utilizing mobile connectivity. This product has been installed across the country for public safety in over 500 communities. It is HIPAA compliant. WiMax is used throughout the Pentagon as well as Camp David.

Equipment by Alvarion Alvarion was founded in 1992 and is the dominant player in WiMax technology worldwide. Partnered with Intel to help create WiMax ready Intel chips. Charter member of WiMax Forum which sets the standards for the technology

Benefits of Wireless Network Up to 30mbps building to building or at least 10 times faster than Comcast Fully Scalable, will grow with the Town Owned by the Town of Chelmsford Connects all town buildings including those not currently on the INet and connects to the Schools network but information will be secure by building Fire training done through video conferencing keeping firefighters at their own stations instead of having all at HQ. Future possibility of removing Centrex for cost savings.

Benefits of wireless Network Disaster recovery options, backing up remote office files in an offsite location Can create WiFi hotspots in town for use by Engineer’s, Health & Building Inspectors to access drawings, plans, databases, GIS & without returning to their office. Multiple possibilities to create small revenue streams ~ Police surveillance, internet Bandwidth to businesses Bandwidth available for all full motion video. Chelmsford Telemedia can use this network as they do the INet. Possibilities up to the Town to imagine

Wireless Network Map

All town building’s will connect to the Chelmsford PD. Two water towers will provide redundant and quality of service connections. Internet access will be provided by two bonded T1 lines connected at the PD. Topology

Maintenance Town IT will have the ability to monitor and report on network traffic. Bandwidth can be allocated insuring those who need it most, get it. Town can replace radio’s as needed. Tower radios will be replaced next day as needed by contract.

Benefits of Mobile Network High Speed to Cruisers and other Town Vehicles at 2 mbps of true throughput or more than twice as fast as current CDMA. Can stream video from Town or possibly community camera’s Access CJIS, Mug Shots, GIS and Town files CJIS approved Potential future ticketing via PDA, improving accuracy and reducing data entry costs. Creates WiFi hotspot around vehicle
