XCON WG IETF-64 Meeting Centralized Conferencing (XCON) using the Message Session Relay Protocol (MSRP) draft-boulton-xcon-msrp-conferencing-02 Editors: Chris Boulton Mary Barnes

Contents Introduction Document Overview Way Forward Comments/Questions

Introduction - General XCON Conference Framework currently progressing as an XCON WG item –Understandably discussions are mostly based on voice/video conferences Framework introduces generic topics applicable to multiple signalling protocols and media types –Conference Object –Cloning Tree Model Useful to have a valid proof point for the XCON Framework that utilizes an alternative media type

Introduction - MSRP MSRP has matured as a standard Recognition as the primary session based Instant Messaging technology Provides an ideal media type for XCON Framework proof point (from previous slide) IM Conferencing has an important role to play in future XCON architectures –In conjunction with other media (e.g. Voice, Video) –Standalone (e.g. Chat Rooms)

Document Overview Very Much ‘Work-In-Progress’ Introduces the concept of an XCON Conference Object with MSRP as the media type MSRP is peer-to-peer protocol –XCON Conference System acts as MSRP End Point to all participating clients (see diagram on next slide) –Interaction between Client  Server is a 1:1 mapping

Document Overview MSRP connection to Conference System is used to send messages to a Conference Instance

Document Overview MSRP SEND message is then distributed to relevant participants of the Conference Instance

Document Overview Document also covers:- –XCON Conference Object identifier in conjunction with MSRP session –XCON Conference User identifier in conjunction with MSRP user –Text Sidebar –Private Message Document in ‘no-way’ impacts the core MSRP protocol –Simply applies XCON Framework principles

Way Forward Continue developing draft –In conjunction with XCON Framework –Input from XCON WG
