 When you experience pressure.  Your body is trained to deal with this by releasing hormones – such as adrenaline.  Generally when the pressure stops the body stops releasing the hormones.  If you’re constantly under pressure, levels remain high and you start to experience the symptoms of stress.

. Needs some stress to live well; energy, motivation Everyone Bored, restless, lack motivation Too little stress Can affect physical, emotional, mental health Too much stress

Explain how you know when you are stressed. Consider:  What do you feel?  What happens to your body?

You may feel: irritable anxious low in self-esteem have a low mood You may find that you: have racing thoughts worry constantly imagine the worst go over and over things You may notice you're: having temper outbursts drinking more smoking more on the go all the time talking more or faster changing your eating habits feeling unsociable being forgetful or clumsy being unreasonable struggling to concentrate You may be suffering from: headaches muscle tension and pain stomach problems sweating feeling dizzy bowel or bladder problems breathlessness dry mouth sexual problems

 Work in groups of 5.  You will be given 2 scenarios, in your groups discuss how stressful you think these would be.  You need to rate how stressful each one is. 1=not stressful, 10=extremely stressful.

 Your need to argue your groups reason for rating your scenarios where you have.  As the groups argue their points, the other scenarios on the line will move places.  Peg the scenarios up on the washing line, in order which they have been rated.

 Class discussion about the stressful scenarios order of ranking.  Individuals may prefer a different order.
