For a long time he has been the centre of tabloid attention, mainly for his allegedly wild personal life and celebrity relationships with Britney Spears and Cameron Diaz. But this publicity is definitely not the only reason for his popularity. Coming to fame as a pop singer and one of the pioneers of the "teen pop revolution" of the 1990s, Justin Timberlake has also proved successful as a songwriter, record producer, and actor.   Timberlake got his first taste of fame at the age of twelve when he beat about five thousand other kids in a tight competition to win a prized spot on the Disney TV show Mickey Mouse Club. It was there that he first met Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and JC Chavez; the latter became his bandmate when in 1995 a boy band called N'SYNC was created. The group, in which Justin was the youngest member, secured their first recording contract in Germany. When their debut album came out in 1996, N'SYNC became an instant sensation in Europe; two years later they made it big in the USA too. N'SYNC reached the peak of their popularity in 2000, when the record "No Strings Attached" became the fastest-selling album of all time. But this did not stop Justin embarking on a solo career- he was by now a "teen idol". His debut album "Justified" was released in 2002; his effort really proved to be "justified" when eventually the record sold over seven million copies worldwide and brought Timberlake a number of music awards, including two Grammys. Justin also collaborated with other artists as a producer and started his own record label, JayTee Records, in His popularity even drew the attention of McDonalds, which used his song "I'm Lovin' It" as a theme tune for its advertising campaign.   However, in 2004 Justin's music career and reputation was somehow darkened by the controversial SuperBowl show appearance with Janet Jackson. At the end of their performance Justin pulled off part of Jackson's costume, leaving her semi naked. The incident became known in the pop world as a "wardrobe malfunction". Partly in response to this, Timberlake put his recording career on hold and branched out into film. Early in his career Justin had a few cameo appearances now and then, but this time he started much more seriously and soon became a top-rated movie star, playing significant roles in such films as "Edison Force", "Alpha Dog", and "Black Snake Moan" and even providing the voice of the prince in the animated movie "Shrek 3".   In 2006 Timberlake returned to the pop music scene with his second album "FutureSex/LoveSounds", which debuted at number one on the Billboard chart. Justin announced that he would now focus on his music career rather than his film roles and even entered the studio with Madonna. His comeback turned out to be quite successful and in 2007 Justin won two more Grammys and was named Best Male Artist of the Year. By a strange twist of fate, the MTV awards ceremony, where Justin received his accolade, turned into an embarrassment for his ex-girlfriend Britney Spears, whose long-awaited performance was a total disaster due to the singer's poor vocals and dancing.
