Lucy Crawford – Product Manager Interventions

Background of Interventions What areas are we trying to cover with this work? The future of recording Interventions in SIMS will span across any area where schools offer extra activities for pupils/students above and beyond normal teaching Some of these areas that we are hoping to link are: SEN, G&T, Pupil Premium

Challenges with tracking Interventions Provisioning multiple students for support Understand how each intervention has had an effect performance indicators Track which interventions are most effective Track cost vs impact Record interventions across multiple areas in one place

Challenges with tracking Interventions Things that interventions should do that are currently difficult Have pre-defined reports on interventions Record start and end and target points for interventions Add evidence to interventions Track interventions against whole school objectives

Areas related to SIMS Interventions Conduct Behaviour Achievement SEN Statuses Need types SEN Provisions Attendance Minutes late Unexplained absences % Attendance G&T Achievements Extra curricular activities Assessment Overall grades Grades in individual subjects Funding Pupil Premium – disadvantaged pupils SEN funding School budget Reporting Individual reports Funding reports Comparison reports Interventi ons

Where we are planning on heading with Interventions Themes Defining interventions Adding students to interventions Recording impact of intervention

Hierarchy of data items in SIMS Interventions Report on Interventions against KPIs Filter other areas Create reports Intervention Definition Add students Record impact Pupil Premium Breakfast club Lunchtime sports John Smith Ben Abbot Jenny Abbey Minutes late AM Unexplained absence English Achievement Engagement in class Theme

Themes Having an area to define themes for interventions Examples of themes could be: improve lateness, engage students in maths, pupil premium support, improve behaviour etc. Themes can have whole school objectives attached to them Each theme can have multiple interventions attached

Define Themes Theme Add intervention types to theme New Search Reading Support Breakfast club Times tables support Lunchtime intervention Improve lateness statistics

Define Interventions Brand new area to define Interventions to include: Intervention name Define what to measure Intervention against Set what the default target should be Attach comments and documents about the actual intervention to the intervention Link Interventions to Themes Add costs to Interventions

Define Interventions Implementation Breakfast Club will happen in the school hall every day before school, starting at 8:30. It will involve free meals as well as places to do homework and other educational activities. Two adults are required to supervise, set up and clear up. Themes Improve lateness Search Costs/Frequency 45 Intervention Name Breakfast Club NewSearch Minutes / sessionSessions/ week 5 Costs / session £100 Fixed Costs £30

Adding students to interventions Using interventions that you have already set up New interventions screen Can have view or edit rights Can add students for a date range Can set targets for students Can record or update start point for students Can record free text or add evidence against each student

Adding students to an intervention Jenny Abbey Daniella Oss15/09/ /09/201414/10/2014 Intervention Name Breakfast Club Add students John Smith Ben Abbot Search Add studentsStart DateEnd Date 05/09/201414/09/ /09/201422/09/ /09/2014

Adding detail to students on interventions Using Interventions that you have already set up Can record whether or not the intervention was successful for each student – efficacy Ability to link adults to the intervention over the date range Ability to record comments about the intervention as a whole

Where we are planning on heading with Interventions Reporting Filter Assessment Manager Marksheets by Interventions Bring Interventions into Discover Widgets on homepage and STV Quick report on which students have which Interventions Interventions vs cost Interventions vs efficacy Widget for staff to easily find which students they are helping with their interventions

Reporting An ability to filter assessment manager screen by interventions Report on which interventions students have had on which dates and what was recorded against them Basic report on costs Include fields in reporting dictionary Report on interventions compared to attendance/behaviour/achievement/conduct Ability to filter Homepage widgets by intervention group Student teacher view interventions widget(s)

Example Student Teacher View Graphs

Grades vs Interventions per Student Phonics Int. Computer Club Breakfast club

Report on efficacy

Report Add to Discover Report on Interventions vs whole school objectives Report on which interventions are most effective – most targets achieved  Once more advanced targets and KPIs are introduced, report needs to show which areas (e.g. behaviour, or assessment) the interventions work best for Highlight on register and on Student Teacher View if a student is on an intervention

Thank you Any questions?
