3 1. Tuition Fee Loan – Tuition Fee Loan of up to £9,000. –The Tuition Fee Loan is paid directly to your university or college. –Irish Universities - Student Contribution Fee of €3,000. rhscareers

4) Bursaries & Scholarships Institutional Bursaries up to £2,000 but your loan is then reduced – by £1500 if max bursary awarded and by full amount of any other! Academic Bursaries – usually around £1000 are also available for AAA students! NHS Bursaries – AHP Degrees. External Bursaries – business, councils etc

QUB Entrance Scholarship Competition Students who have three ‘A’ grades at A-Level are eligible to enter the University’s Entrance Scholarship Competition to receive any of the following awards: David Russell Lappin Scholarship - £600 per annum for 3 years (1 award) John Sinclair Porter Scholarship - £600 for 3 yrs (2) Sullivan Scholarship - £1,000 for 3 years (1 award) Reid-Harwood Scholarship - £800 for 3 years (1) Megaw Scholarship - £900 (1 award) Dunwoody Scholarships - £500 for 3 years (2)

2. Glasgow University 10 rhscareers RUK Access Bursary - financial support to talented students who (for reasons of financial hardship) might not be able to take a place at University. 11 Special Degrees 1.Allied Health Professional (AHP) Degrees Chiropody, Dental Hygiene/Therapy, Dietetics, Podiatry, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Prosthetics, Radiography, Speech & Language Therapy etc. Income assessed bursary (> £5000 in London) + £1000 grant Reduced rate student loan Tuition fees paid by NHS Bursary if accepted on NHS funded place – see individual universities.

15 Example 1 - Bill is studying for a History Degree at a University in England. The household income is £15,000 Bill is entitled to receive : A Tuition Fee Loan of £9,000, paid directly to the University. A full Maintenance Grant of £3,475. A Maintenance Loan of £2,953 (reduced from £4,840 due to maintenance grant). An Institutional Bursary of £500. The total amount he will receive in his first year is at least = £6,928

7/3/ Example 2 – Anne is studying for a Degree in Physiotherapy at UU. The household income is 45k. Anne is entitled to receive: Tuition Fees paid by NHS Bursary. A max Maintenance Loan of £3,750. She is not eligible to receive a Maintenance Grant. She is unlikely to receive a means tested Institutional Bursary, an Academic Bursary or scholarship may still be an option. => £3,750

Repaying the Student Loan (The Good News) Repayments don’t commence until April after leaving and earnings are over £17,495 per year. Any balance outstanding will be written off after 25 years. Only the student is legally liable for repayment.

19 Repaying the Student Loan (The Bad News) Interest is charged - based on rate of inflation. For example, if taken automatically from 9% of income over £17,495 i.e. earn £21,000 => repay £ / year. Payments must continue if moving abroad. Student Loans are still payable if bankrupt.

Study in Europe? Many European Countries charge much lower tuition fees than the UK Erasmus enables students to study or work in Europe as part of their degree.Erasmus You receive a grant and have tuition fees waived (if you go for the full academic year). It counts towards your degree and is not a gap year. 20
