The following themes were discussed with participants in this order: definitions and forms of violence, positive and negative aspects of a relationship, gender roles, social problem-solving skills, sexual violence and sexuality, safety plans and looking for help. A male and a female psychologist conducted the intervention to provide different gender models; participants were separated according to gender of the psychologist in sessions about sexual violence/sexuality. Romantic relationships in adolescence is an area which interests different scientific and societal endeavours. Brazilian adolescent relationships have their own characteristics as observed by Minayo, Assis & Njaine (2011), involving more partners in a shorter period of time compared to adult Brazilian and American adolescents. Thus, a Brazilian teenager who is abusive in romantic relationships would possibly be violent against various partners in a short period of time, indicating the need for urgent action to eliminate or at best reduce dating violence in adolescents. A Brazilian pilot prevention program on dating violence in a public High school Sidnei R. Priolo Filho & Lúcia C. A. Williams Universidade Federal de São Carlos - Brazil RESULTS INTRODUCTION DISCUSSION METHODOLOGY Participants were 34 adolescents with a mean age of 15.2 years who were randomized among control and intervention groups. Participants answered demographic questions, the Conflict Tactics Scale – Revised (CTS-2) and the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). The intervention consisted of 8 50 minute sessions occurring during school hours. The study had IRB approval, as well as approval from the school and students´ parents. In spite of the small sample, this pilot suggests the possibility of doing preventive programs aimed at adolescent dating violence in the Brazilian context. AUDIT results showing a lower alcohol consumption indicates that some skills learned at the intervention could be expanded to other areas of the adolescents lives, as observed by Foshee et al. (2014). The final study will adapt the instruments for this population so that students will be able to finish the questionnaire in shorter time, and add more topics to the intervention based on their interest, such as problem- solving in the family and school context, contraception and consequences of alcohol and drug use. Results showed that one third of participants from both groups suffered at least one form of physical dating violence in the past year; more than 50% from both groups likewise had experienced at least one form of psychological violence, and almost 25% at least one sexual violence occurrence. A McNemar test showed that after the intervention, participants from the intervention group showed a decrease of reported episodes of sexual violence (p = 0,04) in dating. Table 1 shows Student’s test results demonstrating significant lower alcohol intake (AUDIT score dropped from 3.34 to 1.91 points (p=0,003) while the control group presented no differences.
