BACKGROUND AND BIO  Born in Neuchâtel Switzerland in 1896  Published articles about mollusks at the age of 15  Attened college at the University of Neuchâtel and the University of Zürich  Taught at the Grange-Aux-Belles Street School for Boys in Paris

 Moved back to Switzerland in 1921  Married with 3 children  Became the Director of the International Bureau of Education in 1929  Served as consultant at conferences at Cornell and University of California at Berkley that focused on children’s curriculum.
