Water Resources Importance for Albania Developement Agriculture -690 k ha Agriculture land -360 k ha potentially irrigable -160 k ha functional irr. infrastructure -270 k ha drainage infrastructure Energy Mw power installed; 95% from Hydropower plants -Year % produced by Hydropower Tourism -476 km coast line -Protected areas (linked with water resouces)

 6 River Basins in Albania (based on hydrological & combined with administrative boundaries)  2 of River Basins on transboundary (Vjosa and Drin-Buna)  National Water Council (decision maker on central level; Chaired by Prime Minister and composed by 9 Minister of Lines)  Technical Secretariat of National Water Council (Executive body of NWC under Prime Minister)  River Basin Council (decision maker on Local level)  River Basin Agencies (under Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Water Administration)

CLIMATE CHANGE RISK ON WATER RESOURCES IN ALBANIA Less water available on the source for water supply; Actually1 billion m3 of water is needed to irrigate the potentially irrigable area of 360,000 ha. The current water availability has been estimated to be between 0.6 and 0.7 billion m3. Due to the anticipated effects of climate change, there will be a need for 1.5 billion m3 of water storage per irrigation; Less electricity produced from Hydropower (actually 100 % of energy produced by hydropower); Flood risk increase on river deltas especially on Buna and Vjosa rivers; Droughts will last longer on low part and south eastern part of the country; Coastal erosion and coastal land lose risk will be higher.
