National Board Certified Teachers 20 The Portfolio: Early Childhood/Generalist NBPTS requires that Early childhood candidates have access to a class of at least 6 students, with at least 51% of the students in the class are between the ages of 3 and 8. The portfolio of the Early Childhood/Generalist provides educators with the opportunity to present a sample of their actual classroom practice over a specified time frame.

Central to teachers' written responses is a detailed examination of a learning experience they videotape. They are also asked to describe how this learning experience is embedded within an ongoing series of activities designed to promote children's understanding of science concepts and processes. Teachers submit a videotape and a written commentary.
National Board Certified Teachers 27 Examining a Child's Literacy Development -- Teachers are asked to present the ways in which they foster literacy development in their classroom. They are also asked to analyze selected work samples from one child, and discuss the steps they would take to support the featured child's literacy development. National Board Certified Teachers 46 Louisiana Candidate Subsidy Program The Louisiana Department of Education will utilize NBPTS Candidate Subsidy funds to support 42 candidates at 50% of the $2300 certification fee AND will subsidize the remainder of the certification fee for the 42 candidates using 8(g) funds allocated by the State Board Elementary and Secondary Education (SBESE). Candidates will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Candidates must meet NBPTS eligibility guidelines. Teachers interested in using candidate subsidy funds to help with the fee MUST submit their NBC application through the program administrator.
