Preparing Worship with Prayer

Greeting : A city on a hill cannot be hidden. We are the light of theworld. Matthew 5:14

Welcome

Call to worship Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God. God’s love was revealed among us in this way, Jesus Christ came into the world. Since God loved us so much, we are called to love one another. Come, let us worship. I John 4:7ff

Openning Prayer

(Following Aboriginal tradition, praying in The Directions)  facing east From the East, the direction of the rising sun, we receive peace and light and wisdom and knowledge. We are grateful for these gifts, O God.

 facing south From the South comes warmth, guidance, and the beginning and the end of life. We are grateful for these gifts, O God.

 facing west From the West comes the rain, purifying waters, to sustain all living things. We are grateful for these gifts, O God.

 facing north From the North comes the cold and mighty wind, the white snows, giving us strength and endurance. We are grateful for these gifts, O God.

 facing upward From the heavens we receive darkness and light, the air of your breath, and messages from your winged creatures. We are grateful for these gifts, O God.

 facing downward From the earth we come and the earth we will return. We are grateful for these gifts, O God.

May we walk good paths, living on this earth as brothers and sisters should; rejoicing in one another’s blessing, sympathizing in one another’s sorrows, and together with you, renewing the face of the earth.

Prayer of Confession

Sometimes, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. But Jesus said, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Let us bring to God in prayer our burden of sin and our yoke of guilt, confident and trusting in the Spirit of grace.

Mother God, In you we live and move and have our being. The whole universe is your womb. You give birth to life in us. Please forgive us when we refuse your gift of life. People are fighting. Landmines and weapons put children at risk and cause terrible suffering.

Forgive us when we do not respect ourselves when we fail to care for others when we turn a blind eye to violence. Keep us safe in your womb. Forgive us. Give birth to a new life in us. We pray in Jesus name… (Silence)

God the Creator Brings you new life, Forgives and redeems you. Take hold of this Forgiveness, and Live your life in the spirit of Jesus. Amen

The Word is Spoken Scripture Matthew 5:14-16 Michelle

Scripture Matthew 5: ) You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15) Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16) In the same way, let your light shine before people, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

Sermon Scripture Matthew 5:14-16 “Let your light shine.”
