Exit Product Education STD Portfolio Overview Traditional Simply Unum Benefit Advantage Select RedPar Flex Self-insured Statutory plans Group STD Portfolio Flex STD provides a base amount of coverage (funded by the employer) and one or two buy- up choices (paid for by the employee). The employer deter-mines the base plan coverage and the plan design for the buy-up(s). The employees' only choice is whether or not to purchase the additional coverage. Flex contracts include several unique provisions because it was originally designed to comply with Section 125 Cafeteria Plan rules. Section 125 – section of the IRS code that allows benefits to be paid for with pre-tax dollars inside a Cafeteria Plan.
