A quick review…… How is cellular immunity (T cell) different than humoral (B cell) immunity? B cells- produce antibodies Killer T cells (CTLs)- release chemicals to destroy infected cells, cancer cells

T cell activation CTLs and T helper cells are activated in a similar way: 2 signals needed to activate naïve cells: 1.Antigen recognition on MHC II of antigen presenting cell 2.Co-stimulatory signal from same cell

Differentiate between: killer T cells, Th 1 cells, Th 2 cells, Th 17 cells, and T 0 cells. Killer T cells- -CD8+ -Recognize antigen on MHC I Th1 cells- -Bacterial or viral infection in the tissues -Release cytokines to charge macrophages and NK Th2 cells- -Parasites and bacterial infections

Differentiate between: killer T cells, Th 1 cells, Th 2 cells, Th 17 cells, and T 0 cells. Th 17 cells- -fungal infections, some bacteria -Triggers neutrophil activation T 0 cells- -uncommitted until they reach the site of infection -Differentiate into Th 1 cells, Th 2 cells, or Th 17 cells * Why are these cells important??

Consider the following case studies and interpret the results. What kind of infection does the patient most likely have? How can you tell?

Case A- Elevated killer T cell levels, elevated Th 1 cell levels

Viral or bacterial infection in the tissues What does the high CTL count mean??

Case B- Elevated B cell levels, elevated Th 2 cell levels

-parasites or intestinal bacterial infection - Th2 cells secrete cytokines that charge NK and MO cells

Case C- Elevated Th 17 cell levels, elevated macrophage and neutrophil levels

Most likely a fungal infection Release of IL-17 triggers MO and neutrophil activation

Double space, font size 10 to 12 pt. Include a highly developed viewpoint/thesis, purpose and exceptional content. Demonstrate superior organization: use logic. Make certain that your paper is free of grammatical and spelling errors. Avoid plagiarism. Use APA style for all in-text citations and references. Always include an introduction and conclusion.
