RAINWATER HARVESTING AND ARTIFICIAL RECHARGE TO GROUND WATER PRESENTED BY CHINTHU P WILSON S7,CIVIL ENGG Roll Number:20 GUIDED BY LECT. MANJU.P.M DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING

WHAT IS RWH? RWH refers to collection and storage of rainwater and also other activity such as harvesting surface water extracting ground water , prevention of loss through evaporation and seepage

PURPOSES OF RWH Stored for ready use in containers ground or below ground Charged into the ground for withdrawal later

BENEFITS OF RWH Rainwater harvesting prevents flooding of lowlying areas Rain water harvesting replenishes the ground water table and enables our dug wells and bore wells to yield in a sustained manner It helps in the availability of clean water by reducing the salinity and the presence of iron salts

RHH TECHNIQUES STORAGE OF RAINWATER ON SURFACE FOR FUTURE USE RECHARGE TO GROUND WATER

ADVANTAGES OF RWH PROVIDES SELF- SUFFICIENCY TO YOUR WATER SUPPLY REDUCE THE COST FOR PUMPING GROUND WATER REDUCE SELF EROSION IN URBAN AREAS RAINWATER HARVESTING SYSTEMS ARE SIMPLE WHICH CAN BE ADOPTED BY INDIVIDUALS PROVIDE HIGH QUALITY WATER THROUGH DILUTION WHEN RECHARGE TO GROUND WATER IT CAN IMPROVE THE ENGINEERING BUILDING FOUNATION WHEN CISTERNS ARE BUILD AS PART OF THE SUBSTRUCTURE OF THE BUILDINGS, AS IN THE CASE OF MANDATORY CISTERNS

DISADVANTAGES OF RWH TAKE CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF TIME TO PAY FOR ITSELF LEKAGE FROM CISTERNS CAN CAUSE THE DETERIORATION OF LOAD BEARNG SLOPES THE SUCCESS OF RAINFALL HARVESTING DEPENDS UPON THE FREQUENCY AND AMOUNT OF RAINFALL THEREFORE IT IS NOT A DEPENDABLE WATER SOURCES IN TIMES OF DRY WEATHER OR PRONGED DRAUGHT

CONCLUSION IN DENSELY POPULATED COUNTRIES LIKE INDIA, THE DEMAND FOR WATER GOES ON INCREASING WITH INCREASE IN POPULATION. THIS PROVES TO BE MAJOUR PROBLEM IN OUR EXPLORING NEW SOURCE OF WATER , RAINWATER NATURALLY AND FREELY AVAILABLE SOURCE CAN BE PROPERLY UTILIZED BY MEANS OF WATER HARVESTING AND RECHARGING RAINWATER HARVESTING IS A VIABLE TECHNOLOGY FOR ENCHANCING PRODUCTION FROM THE RAINFED LANDS GROUNDWATER RECHARGING BY ARTIFICIAL METHODS SHOULD BE TAKEN UP PRIORITY BASIS, FIRST IN DISTRICT WHERE RAINFALL IS LESS AND RARE FARMERS HAVE TO DEPEND ON RAINWATER A STRATEGY TO IMPLEMENT THE GROUND WATER RECHARGE. IN A MAJOUR WAY NEEDS TO LAUNCHED WITH CONCERTED EFFORTS BY VARIOUS GOVERNMENTAL AND NONGOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES AND THE PUBLIC AT LARGE, TO INCREASE THE WATER TABLE AND MAKE THE GROUND WATER RESOURCES, A RELIABLE AND SUSTAINABLE SOURCE FOR SUPPLEMENTING WATER SUPPLY NEEDS.
